| | Charlie FM, They play EVERYTHING | ] | So, I'm sitting here at work, eating Triscuits and teriyaki jerky and guzzling Mountain Dew by the liter, and feeling rather nostalgic, thinking about friends and fun times.
Someday, I'll just have to write my memoirs...call it "The Life and Times of a Somewhat Liberal Mormon Dude With Too Many Kids and Not Enough Hours in a Day." What do you think...too long... Pretty much sums up everything, though.
Haven't been to an SCA Event all season, due to work, and trying to achieve some pretty hefty goals financially. Get to go to Banner War at the end of the month, though Fighting with mercenaries is good, cause we get paid. This time they are paying us with FOOD, which is ALWAYS good for me. A/W War a couple of years ago I got paid with a pair of nice, shiney stainless demis. Look really awesome with my slightly chromified look. New stainless greaves, wambrace splints, shoulders, and soon, new war helm.
I miss playing as much as I used to. At least every other weekend in the season. Next year will be better.
Was told by our current King, recently, that even though my Knight is no longer a Knight, everyone here still considers him such, and therefore I am still a Squire. Didn't use to think much about being a squire as anything more than a loyalty thing to one of my best friends, but I started to notice that on the battlefield, that red belt does command some respect. Opponents seem to do a double-take when they see it, then approach a little less recklessly.Yeah, I'll admit, I LIKE that, especially since I'm not that good, and if they really knew ME as a fighter, they'd blast right through me.That extra couple of seconds of pause usually gives me the advantage. Being a bit of a lunatic on the field helps some, too. "Never trust a man who acts as if he has nothing to lose."
Sometimes, though, I miss just hanging by the campfire after a day of fighting and telling stories, laughing our asses off,
Anyway, my life is not about the SCA. It IS just a game, a hobby. Something to do when the important stuff is done, or I need a break from it. I am VERY lucky that my wife and kids enjoy it, too. Wouldn't be worth it to me if they weren't.
The most important things in my life are my relationships. With my wife, my kids, and my friends. When all is said and done, that's really all that I am about. I appreciate the people in my life, even if I don't tell them that often enough.
Rambling, sorry.
Co-worker just got back from the Vidjo Store. Got movies that need watchin. |
