Nostalgic [Sep. 20th, 2007|09:26 pm]
[Current Location |OSM, work]
[Current Mood | contemplative]
[Current Music |Charlie FM, They play EVERYTHING]

So, I'm sitting here at work, eating Triscuits and teriyaki jerky and guzzling Mountain Dew by the liter, and feeling rather nostalgic, thinking about friends and fun times.

Someday, I'll just have to write my memoirs...call it  "The Life and Times of a Somewhat Liberal Mormon Dude With Too Many Kids and Not Enough Hours in a Day."  What do you think...too long...  Pretty much sums up everything, though.

Haven't been to an SCA Event all season, due to work, and trying to achieve some pretty hefty goals financially. Get to go to Banner War at the end of the month, though Fighting with mercenaries is good, cause we get paid. This time they are paying us with FOOD, which is ALWAYS good for me. A/W War a couple of years ago I got paid with a pair of nice, shiney stainless demis. Look really awesome with my slightly chromified look. New stainless greaves, wambrace splints, shoulders, and soon, new war helm.

I miss playing as much as I used to. At least every other weekend in the season. Next year will be better.

Was told by our current King, recently, that even though my Knight is no longer a Knight, everyone here still considers him such, and therefore I am still a Squire. Didn't use to think much about being a squire as anything more than a loyalty thing to one of my best friends, but I started to notice that on the battlefield, that red belt does command some respect. Opponents seem to do a double-take when they see it, then approach a little less recklessly.Yeah, I'll admit, I LIKE that, especially since I'm not that good, and if they really knew ME as a fighter, they'd blast right through me.That extra couple of seconds of pause usually gives me the advantage. Being a bit of a lunatic on the field helps some, too. "Never trust a man who acts as if he has nothing to lose."

Sometimes, though, I miss just hanging by the campfire after a day of fighting and telling stories, laughing our asses off,

Anyway, my life is not about the SCA. It IS just a game, a hobby. Something to do when the important stuff is done, or I need a break from it. I am VERY lucky that my wife and kids enjoy it, too. Wouldn't be worth it to me if they weren't.

The most important things in my life are my relationships. With my wife, my kids, and my friends. When all is said and done, that's really all that I am about. I appreciate the people in my life, even if I don't tell them that often enough.

Rambling, sorry.

Co-worker just got back from the Vidjo Store. Got movies that need watchin.

Okay [Sep. 4th, 2007|08:34 am]

[Current Mood | contemplative]

Updatey stuff.

Been an incredibly BUSY (spelled C R A Z Y) summer.

Major fight with the PSYCHO ex about getting my two younger boys here from Utah for the summer. Finally scared her into obeying the Court Order by threatening to bring Sheriff's Deputies when I went to pick them up the first weekend of July.

Also got Jeff's mom moved to Boise, and even got a load of her stuff to her. Still have some of it in the garage. Trying to work out fundage issues to get the rest to her.

Erika graduated, got a job, started rebelling against the household rules "cause she's an ADULT now", even though I still payed ALL of her bills. She moved back in with her mom a few miles away. Way less stress in our house, now.

All of the other kids are doing great. Cameron bought a project car for he and I to work on together. That will be fun.
Kaitlyn spent most of the summer with her grandma in Battle Ground, taking her to and from Chemo-therapy. Ren is acting like a typical 13 year old...doesn't think he has to do anything but play video games. Marc is...well...Marc. He's awesome. Wish all the kids were like him sometimes. Zach is still pushing buttons to see what he can get away with. Ammon and Jarom are back in Utah. Their school started 2 weeks ago. I am really missing watching them grow up. Bryant, of course, is a little ball of fire. He's the baby from The Incredibles, Jack-Jack...

Dorito is still in physical therapy after her shoulder surgery in May. That's fun. Other than that, she's more amazing than ever.

I started counseling for my anger issues 2 weeks ago. Guess it's less an anger issue than it is an "I want somebody DEAD" issue. Problem is, my family is getting the brunt of it, and that's not fair to them. So, anyway, found out I have ADD...surprise, surprise, surprise. Probably could have figured that out myself. But we're trying everything we can before we resort to drugs to balance me.

Still working security, but have pretty much given up Mortgages because the economy, well, the mortgage side, anyway, SUCKS. But on the upside, with the economy taking this nose-dive, our Private Franchise business hass completely EXPLODED, in a good way. Our bonuses are upwards of $1,500.00 a month now, and getting bigger.

That's all for now. Gotta go walk, then start my day.

Waiting... [Apr. 4th, 2007|10:07 am]

[Current Mood | contemplative]

10:00 am... waiting for Jeff's mom to call from the hospital, so I can go pick her up, etc.

Tried to sleep after I got home at 6:30 this morning, and tossed and turned for about 3 hours. Bummer.

Anyway, glad I am able to help out someone I consider one of my best friends in the world, especially since I haven't seen him or Katie for a few years. Someone at work last night asked why I would do all of this stuff, and I just told him "That's what friends do."

With all of the other crap going on in their lives right now, if I can help relieve SOME of their stress, I'll do whatever I can.

Jeff keeps bringing up this loyalty thing...I have always believed that friendship and loyalty will always win out.

Jeff, Katie and I haven't always seen eye-to-eye on everything, but, hey, even loyal friends make mistakes...and true friends are willing to forgive and move on (I didn't say FORGET, because you shouldn't forget, so that the same mistakes don't happen again).

DeLo and I had a talk the other night about friendship, and we both agreed that the basic definition of a true friend is someone you can count on, no matter what, and that is willing to tell you the truth, even if you don't like it.

I hope that is how my friends view me, 'cause when all is said and done, when I stand before my Maker, the only thing I will have is my relationships with others. I want to be able to say that I was a true friend.

Update [Mar. 2nd, 2007|11:15 am]
[Current Location |Home, STILL recovering]
[Current Music |King Arthur Soundtrack]

Okay, so I'm not very good at this updatey thing.

It is now March, And been a while since I've posted, obviously.

News...Jeff and Katey are not moving up here as anticipated, at least for a while. Double bummer. We miss those guys a bunch.

Haven't really played in the SCA for a while, due to financial goals that we are working on.

Been working my butt off...Mortgage business, Security job, and Private Franchising business. Good news is, the way things are going with our PF business, I will be leaving the Mortgage business in about 6 months, and the Security job 6 months after that   WOOHOO...43 and RETIRED.

Kids are all doing great, keeping us on our toes. There is NEVER a dull moment at our house. (4 teenagers now)

In other news. I am at home today, recovering from surgery. DeLo and I have decided that we have enough kids now (YA THINK...), so I went and got snipped yesterday. Not much pain, just a little discomfort, but no work til next Tuesday.

My buddy Joe Franco is moving back up here from Alabama. He went down there to get married, and has been there for a few years. He and his wife Deb have a little girl that is 2 days younger than our youngest.

Joe and I were roommates before I met DeLo, and he is the one that got me interested in the SCA. We went and saw A Knights Tale, and he asked if there was anywhere you could do stuff like that. I knew about the SCA from when I was in Germany in '91, so I started looking around for a local group. Went to a Stromgard fighter practice, met some great people, and haven't looked back since.

I met Jeff there for the first time, and about 2 weeks later started a friendship with him that I will always value. I'd do anything for that guy (and his wife), even though we have had some ups and downs. Guess that is what real friendship is, sticking with people even when they piss you off (like I know I have a few times. The only time he pissed me off was when he moved and didn't ask for my help.) Water under the bridge.

Anyway, overall things are awesome.

MEME [Mar. 2nd, 2007|11:08 am]
[Current Location |Home, recovering from surgery (snip, snip...)]

1. How on earth do you survive with two jobs and 50 kids? I would go crazy...how do you do it?
DeLo is the amazing one. I pretty much just go to work and bring home money, she does the rest.

2. Best Comic to Movie Adaptation?
Sin City, while not necessarily my favorite graphic novel, was BY FAR the best frame for frame movie adaptation. Which is why I am so excited about 300. Frank Miller rocks.

3. When are you planning on seeing 300?
Saturday afternoon with the ICB in Longview.

4. Are you of a mind to change personas again (Spartan anyone?)
Why, are you? Pretty happy with the Roman thing right now, and of course with Rome on HBO...

5. Who is your biggest movie personality crush?
Sandra Bullock in just about everything she's done. Have always dug her personality. Very similar to DeLo's, which is one of the reasons I was attracted to her.

Alright, I get it...I'm updating...jeez.

Okay, so what all has been happening around here?

DeLo is a full time stay-at-home mom, which is a full-time job at our house. She is SO amazing.

Erika is now 17, and a Business Owner. She played football this year, Varsity and JV, at Heritage High School. One of 2 girls in the League, and the other was as much of a boy as most of the boys on her team. Erika is becoming more and more of a girly-girl, but football was something she really wanted to do. She finished the season and lettered varsity.

Kaitlyn is 15 going on 25, at least in her mind. She was all of the benefits of being an adult, but NONE of the responsibility, She spends more time getting in trouble than anything else.

Cameron lives with his mom now. She moved here to Vancouver so that the kids could finish High School here. Not doing so great in school. More interested in having fun. Reminds me of me, but I kept my grades up. He wants to wrestle this year...we'll see.

Ren is 12 now, and acting it, pushing boundaries, and basically testing our patience.

Marc is, well...Marc. I sometimes wish all of the kids were more like him, like a little robot when you ask him to do something. He is progressing very well at school, and is up to 2nd grade level. (He is developmentaly delayed.)

Zachariah is still the biggest handful...for someone who didn't have me around for the first 6 years of his life, he sure is alot like me...

Ammon and Jarom live in Utah with their mom, and we see them for visitation.

Bryant is the most adorable 2 year old in the entire world, not even going through the terrible 2's. He's such a good boy.

We are on hiatus from the SCA until we get caught up on our finances, and get a little more comfortable. It can be an expensive hobby.

Me, I'm working 2 jobs to keep DeLo home, and building a Private Franchising business to keep her home with money, and so that I can come home, too.

[Current Music |The 13th Warrior Soundtrack]

It's been months since I've updated...

So, here goes. The Gillins house is absolutely nuts. I took a second job (in addition to Mortgages) with Securitas Security Company, and am working weekend graveyard shift, Sat, Sun, Mon, and every other Tues, 7:00pm to 7:00am, so I'm either working or sleeping on the weekends. Weekdays I work my Mortgage business, which has really slowed down since rates started climbing.

DeLo and the kids are doing great. It's summer, so all of the kids are home most of the day. DeLo is keeping herself busy running our Private Franchise business, and trying to keep up with the kids. Erika has a boyfriend (she's freakin' 17 already), Kaitlyn has a job, and is looking forward to getting her driving permit this month, Cameron is in Summer School, because he decided to fail 2 required classes during the school year. The rest of the kids are keeping us running. Ren is 12 now, and going through "the Change", which is all sorts of fun. Marc is, well, Marc...Zach is causing lots of trouble, and finding new and exciting ways to push our buttons. Ammon and Jarom are here for the summer, and having loads of fun. The baby, Bryant, is 22 months old now, and talking like a madman (wonder where he gets that?).

Just realized how long it's been since I actually posted here, rather that just doing stupid online quizzes.

Things at the Gillins madhouse have been absolutely nuts. My ex-wife got back from Iraq, and decided to move to Vancouver from Boise in order to let the kids finish school here. Kinda weird having an ex live literally around the corner from us. At least my kids aren't so far away anymore. Boise is a 6 1/2 hour drive from here. Sorry Jeff, won't be going to Boise anytime soon, can't really deal with your situation if I have no legit reason to go over there...

Anyway, 3 kids in High School, 1 in Middle School, 2 in Grade School, and the little one at home keep us hoppin.
